Martin Vajčner: Welschriesling II
Martin Vajčner: Welschriesling II
A complex, versatile wine from one of the rising stars of Central Europe – Martin's family has been working with wine in Moravia since the 17th century and these roots definitely show in his work! He is super geeky about his terroirs – this wine comes from a microlot in an upper part of the vineyard where the soil is sandier, resulting in a wine of distinct freshness and elegance, so Martin vinifies it in a barrel apart, marked with the "II". Unfined, unfiltered, zero SO2 added. Excellent ageing potential.
Earthy – think walking through a forest after rain – leaves, undergrowth, a faint hint of truffles, layers after layers and incredibly fresh, with the signature Welschriesling acidity (the grape has no actual relation to the Rhine Riesling, curiously!). A great wine for culinary adventures – try rich fish dishes, buttery sauces, poultry stews and veggie dishes based on mushrooms or root vegetables...
