Štemberger: Loop 2019

Riesling Italico and Malvasia, plus a bit of Rebula is a good combination. Lively and bright, a decidedly fruity wine that despite a whole entire year on the skins is elevated due to a proper amount of acid counteracting the natural tannin. It is a rarity that an Orange wine with so much maceration and an equal amount of time on wood after being racked to another barrel would provide such an incredibly electric dose of acidity. A must for fatty, porky dishes. There is a decent hit of minerals (Potassium, Calcium) to the palate, providing a bit of a layered feeling. There is a unique vinification method here: the wine is aged under a “Flor”- that is a layer on the surface of yeast, which is possible because around 10cm is left at the top of the barrel, allowing for the layer to develop on top of the wine, only pushing that down every once in a long while. It works for us!
