Vino Vdovjak: Furmint ŽiWine 2023

Straight from the volcanic soils of Slovak Tokaj! Yes, this famous region overlaps from Hungary to Slovakia, and produces a colourful range of wines made with Furmint, the local star of the show. Similar to Chenin in the Loire Valley, Furmint is a chameleon that can turn into fresh whites, rich skin-contacts as well as noble-rot dessert wines, depending on the climate and winemaker's hands.

Furmint ZiWine by the Slovak force of nature Matus Vdovjak has it all – it spent 3 days on skins and only the free-run juice was used, so it's wonderfully rich and a tad smokey, while keeping the typical freshness of the grape. Rounded by a tiny bit of botrytic (noble rot) grapes that concentrate the whole and bring in a spicier, slightly marzipan note, this is a perfectly indulgent white-orange wine for when the nights get longer...
